{owh} day 4

Today on the SRM blog is day 4 of our week of fun with Operation Write Home!  We have been featuring birthday cards all week!  I teamed my favorite paper, My Mind's Eye with my favorite SRM stickers - border stickers!

Oh Happy Day

I adhered the star border sticker onto a transparency sheet, trimmed it and made loops to make this fun bow!

{owh}

Welcome! We're teaming with Operation Write Home all week long to celebrate their birthday. Operation Write Home is an organization that sends blank handmade cards to deployed service members so that they can write home to their families. As of March 2012, they've sent 1.7 MILLION cards!
We're helping out this week by creating Birthday Cards for our service men and women. We have a lot in store this week, and a fun reader challenge (read below).
Today we're using a sketch by OWH as inspiration:

Here's my card:

The birthday sentiment is on the inside.  :)

CHALLENGE

Create a birthday card using SRM Stickers, based upon the sketch above and upload it into our Gallery with the tag, "owhsketch". You have until the end of the week and you can enter as many times as you like. Your card should adhere to the OWH guidelines and when finished, you can send your card(s) off to OWH to be sent overseas. Good luck and happy card making!

We'll choose a few winners to receive a prize package that includes all of our new Summer realeses and so much more! Winners will be announced next Tuesday!

Thanks for stopping by, happy Monday, friends!

(spooky treats)

I have a cute Halloween Treat Holder up on the SRM blog today!  I found the box at Michael's and knew with a few changes and some fun Halloween Border stickers it would be a terrific treat holder!  There was already patten paper on the ends but I decided to add my own.  I fashioned the tube holder insert out of cardboard and black cardstock.  The tubes hold candy corn, "bones" (beads), "intestines" (glow in the dark bracelets!) and "eyeballs" (bouncy balls).

Do you decorate for Halloween?

Happy Friday, friends!   Have a wonderful weekend!

{frankentube}

I have a fun project up on the SRM blog today!

Let me introduce Frank.  :)

He is somewhat of a mummy crossed with Frankenstein. :)  See his little scar on his forehead?  That is a little piece of an SRM zig zag border! He resides in this decked out coffin.

I bought the coffin unfinished at Michael's.  I used paper, ink and alcohol inks to finish it and then added the Halloween We've Got Your Border Stickers.  Frank seems to like it!

I plan on filling the tube with candy and giving it to my youngest.  SRM tubes come in a variety of sizes and are food safe!  They certainly make gift giving fun and unique!

Happy Monday, friends!  I hope happy finds you today!

{sketch duo}

Today I added the second "twisted sketch" for my monthly card sketch challenge.  The twist is to add texture to your card and the challenge is to change up the sketch a bit to make it your own.

I added texture with the corrugated cardboard strip and the wooden butterfly. I changed the sketch slightly by moving the circle element to right of center, replaced the flower elements with the butterfly and added my sentiment strip to the middle band.

I hope you can join me over at MSW for this fun challenge!

Artful Delight is a wonderful Kit Company.  They offer both card & scrappy kits!  I was first introduced to them when I was on the DT for Paper Variety, they were a wonderful sponsor on more than one occasion.  Currently they have a DT call and sketch challenges for both cards and layouts!

Here is the card sketch:

 Here is my card.

Lots of MME and SRM (big surprise, I know.) on both these cards. :)  What can I say?
They move me.

Happy Sunday, friends!

{halloween decor}

SRM introduced these cute Halloween Borders at the CHA show this summer.  Aren't they adorable?  Not only are they cute, they are versatile and fun to work with - layouts, card, altered items, you name it you can use them on it all!

I love to decorate for Halloween.  Candles are a favorite - I love the shadows they create! I used these borders and a few stickers from the new Stickers by the Dozen to decorate these simple pillar candles and holders.

It took me about 30 minutes to do these.  Easy peasy!  Check out the SRM blog for more ideas and to see the We've Got Your Border collection!

Happy Thursday, friends!  I hope happy finds you in some small way today.

{thank you} tube gifty

I have a little gift set up on the SRM blog today.  :)  I made it earlier in the summer for a little friend of ours who fed and watered Lucky while we were gone for the day.  Her Mom didn't want me to pay her so I put this little set together using a Skinny Tube, a couple borders from the Thank You collection and a tag from the new Labels by the Dozen.  Some lovely Twinery Twine "tied" it all together! :) She loves to get her hands dirty in the garden so I thought this set would make her happy.

I needed a way to anchor the Thanks a Bunch flag so I used my Crop-A -Dial to punch a hole through the layered flower and stuck the pick through it and into the soil pod that came with the mini pot.

I decorated both the pot and the tube with the adorable daisy chain border and used the scallop border to finish off the pattern paper wrap on the tube. I love the twine, it is a great finishing touch.

Tubes make gift giving so easy (and inexpensive) and memorable! They are food safe and come in a variety of sizes!  Look here for more gift giving ideas using SRM Tubes!

Happy Monday and Happy Labor Day, friends!

(need a challenge?)

My Sketch World is holding a Labor Day Crop this weekend!  Details can be found hereIf you need any motivation, there is a $20 and $10 GC to the scrappy store of your choice up for grabs and you have until September 9th to do the challenges!

The beginning of the month always brings a round of new monthly challenges too!  MSW offers challenges for both scrappers and card makers!  The new layout sketch is up today and the card sketch will be up on the 15th.

I am doing a month long card sketch challenge with a sketch and "twist" each week.  I will be randomly drawing from those who complete all 4 sketches for a Guest Designer for this challenge in October!

Here is the card sketch for this week:

My challenge is to change up the sketch in some way and the twist is to use 2 pattern papers.  I rotated the sketch on turn to the right, evened out the circles and replaced the flower elements with the bat and mummy embellishments.

I used a lot of the SRM We've Got Your Borders! The sentiment is from the new Stickers by the Dozen.  The script paper is MME and the dotted is Imaginisce, as are the embellishments. Here is a close-up:

I hope you can join us for the crop this weekend and the challenges this month!

Happy Saturday, friends!  I hope sunshine and happy find you today!
